Teleconsultation
Ask whether a remote eye consultation is appropriate for you.
Some eye concerns still require examination with specialist equipment. Contact the hospital to confirm whether a remote consultation is available and clinically suitable.
When remote review may help
A remote consultation may be useful for selected follow-up questions, review of existing reports or other situations where the clinician determines that an in-person examination is not immediately required.
When in-person care is important
Many ophthalmic conditions require direct examination, pressure measurement, imaging or other tests. The hospital team may therefore recommend an in-person appointment even after an initial remote enquiry.
Not for emergencies
Sudden loss of vision, significant eye injury, chemical exposure, flashes with a sudden increase in floaters, or severe eye pain should not be managed through a routine teleconsultation request.
